The Rasmus' mega hit In the Shadows has overtaken the works of composer Jean Sibelius on the list of Finnish compositions earning performance royalties abroad. Until now Sibelius' Violin Concerto and his Second Symphony have been the only pieces to have reached number one on the list put out by the Finnish Composers' Copyright Society - Teosto, according to an article in Helsingin Sanomat. The Teosto figures place the compositions in question in order of the number of payments they earn - not the sums of money involved. Nevertheless, it is clear that the million-seller In the Shadows was played more around the world than Freestyler by Bomfunk MC's, Sandstorm by Darude, or Join Me (In Death) by HIM.
"This is really something. Nevertheless, I do not believe that In the Shadows will be played 100 years from now, like the Violin Concerto and the symphonies are being played now", says The Rasmus vocalist Lauri Ylönen to Helsingin Sanomat.
